Crappy garden weasel

We were out planting today and I tried using my new garden toy. Needless to say I am not pleased. It only took 5 minuets to snap the end off. Obviously there 100% garantee does not mean they make a durable product.

Power supply

Here is my power supply. It is a simple full wave unregulated circuit. Its output is 30v DC at 2A.

Led light

Here is the progress of the LED light. I have drilled all of the holes and mounted the Red led PCBs

Here is a close up the the red strips. They are made form scrap FR4 with SMT high output red LEDs mounted with epoxy. They are Daisy chained with buss wire and supplied power with 30 gauge wire. I have to arrange the circuit for a 12/13 arrangement to make them work with the power supply I am building. I then mounted them to the aluminium plate with RTV and screws.

Killawatt

In an effort to track and cut down on the electric used I have acquired a kill-a-watt meter. This will be used for the LED grow light project. Hopefully I can design and build a LED grow light that is comparable to the fluorescent bulbs at greatly reduced power consumption.

Start of 2009 garden

Here is the state of the garden after winter.
The over wintered carrots were dug up with disappointing results. They turned into mush after thawing out.
As you can see there is remnants of last years plants and cages that were not pulled at the end of the year so there will be extra work to do before planting.
